Photo: Andes Mountains Jumped Like a Cork

An undated photo shows sedimentary rocks from a portion of the Andes Mountains in Bolivia.

Scientists unveiled a new study in early June 2008 suggesting that the mountain range underwent a huge, atypical growth spurt instead of elevating slowly and steadily over millions of years like most geologic processes.
