Photo: New Undersea Cable Will Link Ocean to Internet



The French ship Ile de Sein (above) laid down submarine fiber-optic cables as part of the joint U.S.-Canada NEPTUNE project, the world's first regional cabled ocean observatory.


The observatory will stream continuous images from the ocean to the Web, which scientists hope will aid them in deciphering the oceans' many unknowns.
