Photo: Giant Toucan Bills Help Birds Keep Their Cool



Toucans, such as the captive bird at top, use their large bills to shed heat in hot conditions, a July 2009 study shows. Heat-sensitive imaging showed toucan's bill glowing in a warm room (bottom left) and then going relatively dark or cool, at lower temperatures (bottom right).
