Photo: New Field Could Explain How Salmon, Turtles, Find Home

A Pacific green sea turtle navigates through the waters of Hawaii's French Frigate Shoals.

Sea turtles and salmon may use the Earth's magnetic field to find their birthplaces after years away. The theory is part of a developing field called movement ecology, which aims to understand the hows, whys, whens, and wheres of organism movement.
