Photo: Shuttle Launch to Be Visible to Most of U.S. East Coast

NASA's space shuttle Discovery lifts off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on December 9, 2006.

Discovery's March 2009 trip will also start with a nighttime launch. Weather permitting, sky-watchers along the U.S. and Canadian east coasts should be able to see the shuttle skimming the horizon for about eight minutes after its 9 p.m. ET launch.
