A polar bear cub lets its mother know it wants to nurse in snow near the Hudson Bay, Canada.

On March 10, 2008, three conservation groups sued the U.S. government for failing to meet its own deadline in determining if polar bears should be listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
