Photo: Indonesian Volcano Roaring to Life

The Anak Krakatau volcano sends up powerful clouds of hot gasses and rocks Wednesday, November 7, 2007, in the Sunda Straits between the Indonesian islands Java and Sumatra.

The volcano's name means "child of Krakatau," a reference to the larger volcano Krakatau (or Krakatoa), which blew up in 1883 in a legendary explosion.
