Photo: Giant Catfish Spared From Fishing on Cambodia River

Fishers in northern Thailand netted this huge catfish in the Mekong River on May 1, 2005. Nearly nine feet long (2.7 meters), the fish tipped the scales at 646 pounds (293 kilograms).

A new program in Cambodia requires fishers who catch such behemoths to turn them over to conservationists, who tag and release the fish back into the river.
