Photo: Explosive Wildfire Season Predicted for U.S. West, South



Firefighters from several U.S. states and agencies converged on a wildfire outside of Springer, Oklahoma, in January 2006.

In many parts of the western U.S., 2006 is already a record year for fire damage. Officials warn that much of the country is at above-average risk for wildfires, with the greatest danger zones in the West and South, stretching from Alaska to Florida.
