Photo: Hurricane Dean Slams Mexico Coast

A satellite image shows Hurricane Dean as it slams into the Yucatán Peninsula early on August 21. The storm came ashore as a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 165 miles (265 kilometers) an hour—the first Category 5 to make landfall in 15 years.

Dean is expected to weaken as it crosses land, but experts predict it will head into the Gulf of Mexico near Campeche and gain strength again as it heads for a second landfall east of Mexico City.
