Gray wolves rest in newly fallen snow at the International Wolf Center in Ely, Minnesota.

Wolves in the northern Rockies region have been removed from the U.S. endangered species list, officials announced on February 21, 2008. This zone includes Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, the eastern thirds of Washington and Oregon, and a small area of north-central Utah.
