Photo: Hippos Butchered by the Hundreds in Congo Wildlife Park



Mai Mai rebels butcher a hippopotamus for meat and ivory along the shores of Lake Edward in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Virunga National Park. A recent aerial census shows that only 629 hippos remain in the park, a 98 percent crash in numbers since the 1970s, conservation groups report.
