The Northern and Southern Celestial poles are imaginary points that are infinite extensions of the north and south poles of the earth's axis. A timelapse photograph basically shows the stars revolving around the north celestial pole as it is the earth that is rotating on its axis and consequently the stars' position in the sky changes, to form a full streaks in the sky. In a place with less light pollution, several stars streaking near each other may appear to form full circles.
