Mayan civilization and its great architectural belongings and remains is very interesting to read.  In such long back history and its various  remainings  scientific inventions of our forefathers will come to the knowledge which is curious and knowledgeable.

This is a wonderful piece that exemplifies the great works of the Mayan people. All of the comments below focus on blaming someone instead of the newest, most admirable Mayan artifact. Lets keep comments on the situation at hand, and our minds on task.....

Obviously, this a 'GREAT DISCOVERY', but please, a little 'perspective' here would help too...  These 'Tikal & Kaanul' Dynastys, (let's call em' the USA & Russia just for KICKS, eh?) They were Vying for control of resources & 'prestige', naming-rights-etc..........So what is so 'Rare' about that?? AD 500-700 looks an awful lot like 1946-1996!  Human societal ambiguities being what they are, People are People.  Whether seperated by centuries of just physical demension.

Very similar in style to those stucco reliefs found on the facades of the building called "Rosalila" in Copan, Honduras from roughly the same era. Rosalila was also found deep beneath newer constructions on Copan's Acropolis.

why  being so developed cultures, it has taken us so long to recover from the encounter with Europe? lamenting and making us "victims" do not make the way to ourselves. These stones carved by our ancestors have much to say, as well as our own faces of mestizos and mulattos. We are talk about grandparents from every continent populating this land of God.

@Rafael Suarez @Rafael Suarez The site where this was dug up, the city state of Holmul, was abandoned around 900 AD.  600 years before Europeans arrived.  Not everything is Whiteys fault

I agree with you 100%....I'm a big fanatic of ancient civilizations and every time something such as this is found around the world I get really excited.......If life would be easier I would love to be part of those teams finding such awesome sites......

@Joseph Mommia @Will Jacob @Rafael Suarez Racist pigs. People long since dead created the situation with the mayan's. Also, if you are unable to defend yourself from outsiders, or see through someone scam, then its your own fault. Freedom is not free, and white people are some of the few that actually make sure they keep their freedoms. Other peoples tend to just sit there and wonder why they are in the position they are in. The world is by no means fair, and im sick and tired of the crying of those who will not do anything for themselves.
