September 30, 2009--Looking like a cosmic "Spiral Jetty," rocky halos are exposed by Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter images of the Argyre region taken on August 4 and released last Wednesday (more hi-res pictures of Mars).

The orbiter's HiRISE camera includes the largest reflecting telescope of any deep-space mission, enabling HiRISE to capture features about as narrow as 12 inches (30 centimeters).
