September 17, 2009--Boeing's 21-foot-wide (6.4-meter-wide) X-48C model aircraft is staged for aerodynamic testing in Hampton, Virginia's Langley Full Scale Tunnel.

Should the model pass this and other tests, it could someday--in a scaled-up version--be a versatile, long-range hauler for the U.S. Air Force, according to NASA.

After the X-48C tests, the historic, but outdated and deteriorating, wind tunnel facility--built in 1930 and used to test World War II fighters, space capsules, and other craft--will be torn down.
