September 16, 2009--Somewhere in the center of this Landsat satellite image is Noreen Thomas's organic farm. The Moorehead, Minnesota, resident is among hundreds of farmers in the U.S. Midwest who've learned how to download and analyze satellite images, according to NASA.

With the satellite views, Thomas can quickly determine whether her crops are creeping too close to another farm, whether weeds are taking over, whether flooding is waterlogging some areas, and more. "We'd have to walk our entire 1,200-plus acres (486-plus hectares) on a regular basis to see the same things we can see by just downloading satellite images," Thomas said in a statement.
