Los Angeles, August 28, 2009--U.S. Forest Service firefighters tackle the Angeles Crest Station fire, one of several fires that have ravaged the outskirts of Los Angeles since August 26.

The Station fire has swept through 144,000 acres (58,275 hectares), destroying at least 64 homes and several other buildings. Fighting the fires has cost more than $27 million, according to the Los Angeles Times. (See more California fire photos.)

The blaze was 38 percent contained by the morning of September 3, the paper reported.
