July 31, 2009--Don't worry, there's no oil spill in this recently published satellite image of the Ganges River Delta in Bangladesh. The rainbow colors come instead from combining three radar images taken in January, February, and March by the European Space Agency's Envisat satellite. The shifting surfaces of the water scattered radar waves differently, resulting in varied hues in each of the images.

Formed by the confluence of the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Meghna Rivers, the Ganges Delta--the world's largest--covers about 155 miles (350 kilometers) of Indian and Bangladeshi coastline.
