London, July 16, 2009--Conservator Marina Sokhan works inside a protective tent as she lasers dirt away from the medieval Cosmati Pavement, now undergoing restoration in Westminster Abbey.

Commissioned by King Henry III for the abbey in the 13th century, the mosaic flooring is made of small inlaid pieces of semiprecious stone, marble, glass, and metal—some of which is thought to have been recycled from the ruins of ancient Rome.
