About half of the known Lunar Orbiter data tapes are shown here, in total weighing about 48,000 pounds (22,000 kilograms).

It takes about a day for the project to recover a single image from the 1960s Lunar Orbiter spacecraft, including an hour just to read the tape. The team is hoping to speed up the process and restore all thousand-odd images by early 2010.
