A yearling Eurasian brown bear cub relaxes in a meadow in Kainuu, a region in northeastern Finland, on July 10, 2008.

During a Wild Wonders of Europe expedition, Widstrand set up a wireless remote camera on a stump. The machine immediately became an object of fascination to the yearling cub, its two siblings, and an adult bear, he noted in his blog.

The bigger bear bit, licked, and shook the device until Widstrand got nervous and scared the bear away. The hard-plastic casing was wrecked but the camera intact.

"I guess he wanted to read the users' manual, but didn't find it, so he had to learn by doing," Widstrand quipped.
