Kennedy Space Center, Florida, May 10, 2009--Wings of light flutter on the horizon as the space shuttle Atlantis, shown attached to a yellowish launch tower, prepares for its May 11 take-off.

The current shuttle mission will repair and enhance the Hubble Space Telescope. During launch, the shuttle sustained what NASA called minor damage (see video): a 21-inch-long (53-centimeter-long) series of scuffs likely created by debris from the external fuel tank that boosts the ship out of Earth's atmosphere before being jettisoned.
