April 15, 2009--The Mars-orbiting HiRISE camera recently snapped this picture of a long, steep slope on the border between Mars's southern highlands and flat northern lava plains. The feature appears to hold clay minerals.

On Earth, clays require liquid water to form, so the presence of clays on Mars is usually seen as evidence of the red planet's watery past.
