The new swine flu strain is spreading fast in Mexico and the southern U.S., World Health Organization spokesperson Peter Cordingly told the Associated Press on April 27.

"These are early days," Cordingly said. "It's quite clear that there is a potential for this virus to become a pandemic and threaten globally."
