Ash nearly erases mountain peaks in the last Redoubt Volcano Webcam picture taken before the device died on March 23, 2009. The volcano had roared to life the day before and has so far seen five successive eruptions.

Small Alaska towns as far as 150 miles (240 kilometers) north of Anchorage, Alaska, have seen abrasive volcanic dust, and area airplanes have been grounded.
