Wilkins Ice Shelf, Antarctic Peninsula, January 18, 2009--A glaciologist with the British Antarctic Survey plants a pole into the ice shelf as part of a satellite monitoring system.

The Wilkins ice shelf is hanging on by a thread due to warming temperatures caused by climate change, experts say. This week scientists announced that the entire continent of Antarctica is warming, despite earlier reports that some regions were actually cooling.
