Athens, Greece, December 9, 2008--Blood drips from a man's hand as he stands behind riot police during demonstrations sparked by the December 7 killing of a boy by police in Athens.

The victim, Alexandros Grigoropoulous, 15, was shot during an altercation between officers and youths who had been throwing objects at a police car, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The killing seems to have exposed an undercurrent of frustration with the current Greek government. Authorities are struggling to contain gangs engaging in looting, vandalism, and arson.
