Tenth Prize: Micro-Star

This shot by Czech hydrobiologist Petr Znachor shows what happens when a star-shaped diatom alga is illuminated with the soft ultraviolet light produced by black lights.

And the green green fluorescing dye with which Znachor stained the diatom indicates deposits of silica along the star's spine.
