Singapore, November 3, 2008--Sightseers at Singapore's newly opened Marina Barrage dam take photos of the ''organic tree'' exhibit in one of six visitor galleries. Constructed at the mouth of the Marina Channel, the dam, which opened November 1, creates a 24,710-acre (10,000-hectare) catchment, making it the city's largest reservoir.

The island nation at the tip of the Malay Peninsula hopes to control flooding and reduce the country's dependence on imported water. Along with visitor galleries designed to raise awareness of sustainability efforts, the Marina Barrage and it's reservoir are intended to be a recreation destination near the city's business district.
