Croix de Bouquets, Haiti, November 2, 2008--A voodoo practitioner dressed as a high priest, or houngan, spits out alcohol mixed with peppers at a festival of the dead.

Voodoo followers flock to cemeteries during the two-day ceremony to offer rum, flowers, and food to Baron Samedi, the guardian of the dead.

Many people called on the spirits for help finding work, relief from soaring food prices, and recovery from the tropical storms that recently swept across Haiti, the Canadian Press reported.
