Tokyo, Japan, November 3, 2008--An archer on a galloping horse aims at a target during the yabusame competition at the four-day Meiji Shrine Autumn Festival.

Yabusame is a type of horseback archery. It was popular among samurai warriors from the Heian Period (794-1192) to the Kamakura Period (1192-1333), according to the Japan National Tourist Organization.

The galloping archers shoot at three targets in succession. Other events included traditional, or kyudo, archery and momote-shiki, where whistling arrows are shot.
