Near Nabulus (Nablus), West Bank, October 13, 2008--Praying at dawn, a Jewish Samaritan preserves an ancient tradition despite electric evidence of a changing world.

The devotee is celebrating the pilgrimage holiday of Sukkot with a visit to Mount Gerizim, sacred to Samaritans.

Currently only about 700 strong, the Samaritans claim that their ancestors escaped the mass deportations of Israelites following the Assyrian conquests of Israel in 721 B.C. Samaritans believe that only they follow the true religion of the Israelites.
