Lima, Peru, October 18, 2008--A purple-clad woman awash in incense follows a procession of Peru's patron saint, the Lord of Miracles.

According to legend, a painting of a black Christ was the only thing left standing when an earthquake in 1746 leveled Lima. During the processions, the image is carried through Lima's streets as throngs of people dressed in the saint's color purple sing, dance, and wave incense.

The procession route is lined with vendors selling traditional Peruvian sweets.
