Ramat Gan, Israel, October 27, 2008--A veterinarian cares for a wounded, two-day-old lioness cub at the Zoological Center of Tel Aviv-Ramat Gan, a recreated African savannah.

The cub was rejected by her mother, Sarah, who is the mother of three. Zoo officials hope the cub will rejoin the pride of six males and six females.

African lions are vulnerable to extinction, according to the IUCN. The primary threat is indiscriminate killing to protect life and property.
