Santos, Brazil, October 14, 2008--Fly-well, swim-away home, penguins. Rescue workers release some hundred Magellanic penguins from a Brazilian Navy ship about 40 miles (64 kilometers) off the coast of Santos.

Hundreds of penguins became stranded in Brazil after following their prey further north than usual. Scientists rescued the flightless birds and transported them out to sea for release into currents flowing south toward their breeding grounds in the Patagonia region of Argentina and Chile.
