Baghdad, Iraq, September 15, 2008--A thick haze from a dust storm that blanketed much of northeastern Iraq and parts of Iran for two days renders a square in central Baghdad barely visible.

According to NASA, sediments from the Tigris and Euphrates floodplain provide ample material for dust storms.

The storm cast an eerie pall over Baghdad on a day when Gen. of the Army Ray Odierno took command of American troops from Gen. David Petraeus, the Los Angeles Times reported.
