Bangkok, Thailand, September 2, 2008--Government backers wield weapons during a battle with anti-government protestors in the streets of Bangkok.

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej declared a state of emergency after the September 2 clash left one person dead and more than 30 injured.

People's Alliance for Democracy protestors have occupied Samak's Government House office complex since last week. They vow to remain until the embattled leader resigns.
