September 11, 2008--A rocket motor test shows off some of the new firepower intended to return humans to the moon by 2020.

Eight ullage settling motors, like this one tested at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, will fire during launch of the Ares I rocket to separate its two stages and push liquid fuel to the bottoms of its tanks.

The Ares I rocket is a core component of NASA's new space-transportation system.
