New Orleans, Louisiana, September 1, 2008--People walk past water gushing over the sides of the Industrial Canal floodwall in New Orleans' Ninth Ward during Hurricane Gustav.

Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers told the Associated Press that they are "cautiously optimistic" the city's levees will hold despite waves sloshing over the walls.

In 2005 the Industrial Canal's levees broke following Hurricane Katrina's landfall, submerging the Lower Ninth Ward.
