Kent, England, September 28, 2008--Frenchman Stephane Rousson, 39, sets off on a failed attempt to be the first person to cross the English Channel in a pedal-powered airship.

Unfavorable winds about halfway through the 28-mile (45-kilometer) jaunt to Wissant, France, caused him to abandon the effort, according to media reports. A similar fate also met his June attempt.

Rousson's latest effort comes days after Swiss adventurer Yves Rossy, 42, made the crossing with a jet-powered wing.
