Brooklyn, New York, September 7, 2008--Twilight fades at Astroland, a space-themed amusement park that closed for good on Sunday night.

The three-acre (1.2-hectare) amusement park had been a Coney Island fixture since 1962. Thousands of visitors came over the weekend for one last spin on the Tilt-a-Wheel, Water Flume, and other rides.

The Cyclone wooden roller coaster and Wonder Wheel are separately owned city landmarks and will continue to operate, keeping some thrills alive on the Coney Island boardwalk.
