St. Paul, Minnesota, September 1, 2008—Jacques, a West Highland terrier dyed red, white, and blue, stands with his owner Iain St. James of Minneapolis outside the Xcel Energy Center where the Republican party is meeting to nominate Senator John McCain as their choice for U.S. President.

St. James told the Pioneer Press that he came to support the convention and a protest march outside the event.

"You can't look at a colored dog and not smile," he said.
