Ramat Gan, Israel, September 26, 2008--Tibor, a one-year-old southern white rhinoceros, learns fighting skills from his father, Atari, at the Zoological Center Tel Aviv-Ramat Gan. He was the first rhino born at the park in 15 years.

Once widespread in southern Africa, the southern white rhinoceros was on the brink of extinction by the late 1800s, according to the IUCN. Conservation efforts, however, have returned the population to more than 11,600. Today it is listed as near threatened.
