Galveston, Texas, September 17, 2008-- Recognize me? A puppy at an animal shelter has its picture taken as part of an effort to reunite stray and abandoned pets with their owners following Hurricane Ike, which slammed the Gulf Coast on September 13.

Dozens of pets ranging from dogs and cats to geckos and a hedgehog were left behind when thousands of Galveston residents fled the oncoming storm. On Wednesday many residents returned to the ravaged island for the first time.
