Castejon de Valdejasa, Spain, August 6, 2008—A Spanish military member fights a fire in a northeastern pine forest. The blaze has scorched more than 5,000 acres (2,000 hectares).

A car crash near the town of Zurea sparked the blaze, which was fueled by temperatures soaring above 101 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius), unfavorable winds, and dry air.

This is Spain's first major wildfire of the summer. Officials warn the next few months could be dry and dangerous.
