Rhodes, Greece, July 25, 2008—A nun holds up a holy icon after a fire swept through the Greek island of Rhodes last week.

Firefighters worked to subdue the blaze that destroyed the island's pine forests and forced 3,000 to evacuate their hotels on Friday, the Associated Press reported.

Though the extent of the damage is still unknown, local authorities said thousands of acres of forest and farmland have been obliterated, the agency said.
