Lagos, Nigeria, July 22, 2008—A man throws water from a bucket, trying to extinguish a fire at an industrial packaging company in Lagos.

In a separate incident, a gasoline tanker truck exploded on July 24 in Lagos, killing 12 people, according to BBC News.

A major hub for African oil distribution, Lagos is notorious for pipeline explosions and industrial fires, and the precarious state of the infrastructure is aggravated by corruption and illegal pipeline tapping.
