Kabul, Afghanistan, July 7, 2008—An Afghan police officer helps an injured man after a suicide car bomb hit the Indian Embassy in Kabul. The attack claimed more than 40 lives and left nearly 150 people wounded. Four Indians, including two diplomats, were among the dead.

Since 2001, and the fall of the Taliban, India has spent more than $750 million on rebuilding infrastructure, schools, and government in Afghanistan.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the attack would not deter the Indian government from offering continued assistance.

The Taliban, as well as Pakistani officials, denied responsibility for the embassy bombing.
