Korinthiakós Kólpos (Corinth Canal), Greece, July 2, 2008—A replica of the Argo—the mythical ship that carried Jason and the Argonauts in their quest for the Golden Fleece—sails into the channel that helps split upper and lower Greece.

The wooden ship, which is just under 100 feet (30 meters) long and boasts 50 oars, was made using history-appropriate Bronze Age technology, organizers told the AFP news agency.

Jason's quest is believed to have carried him to Colchis in modern-day Georgia, but the new Argo set sail last month for Venice because of difficulties securing passage through Turkish waters, according to wire agencies.
